"So you want to be a Starlings
Coach..."
Central Coast Starlings is currently looking for coaches to help with the remainder of
this season.  This is a paid position and SMALL stipends are available, but since we
are a non-profit, the stipend is minimal.

Starlings is the first
college prep volleyball club to bring the sport of competitive
CLUB volleyball to the community of Santa Cruz County.

The mission of Starlings Volleyball is to provide girls (18 and under) from diverse
backgrounds the opportunity to train and compete in the sport of volleyball at a fun
and challenging level.

The goal of Starlings Volleyball is to encourage teamwork, positive life skills, and
academic achievement among athletes at a fraction of the cost of most club programs.

Beginning in March, there will be TWO more teams being added to the program.  The
Starlings SANTA CRUZ team practices two days a week at The Circle Church in
Santa Cruz, from 3:30 to 5:30pm on Thursdays and 3 - 5pm on Saturdays.  The
Starlings Watsonville 16's team will practice at the Watsonville Family YMCA, from 4
to 6 on Mondays and 3 to 5 on Wednesdays.  All team have  tournaments on
weekends, the final tournament dates this season are posted on the
Program
Description .

Both are very strong teams but  still working on perfecting a lot of the basics, so an
experienced coach is desired but not required.  What is needed is someone willing to
learn the drills to show the team but work more on their form,  confidence, and self
esteem so they can play one the court more focused and in control!  I will be available
for most practices to help as needed.

There is a paid stipend for the season... between $200-250 for season... possibly
more.   If you know someone and would like to work with them, I could work something
out and find some money for an assistant.   Starlings is a non profit organization so we
do not make much money to begin with.

Check out www.WatsonvilleStarlings.com for information on the program,
pictures of the team and a history of our amazing and unique program!!!
Why Do I Like Volleyball - 2008

Let me count the many reasons.
It is a fun team sport,
which I love to play throughout the seasons.
Even though my skills may lack,
my coach and teammates have my back.
I really like my volleyball coach,
he always encourages me to be the most.
To be a Starling fills me with pride,
and is more fun than a theme park ride
Academics here are very stressed,
it is something we must all address.
To my Starlings sisters at this event,
to make your acquaintance is my intent.
And in conclusion I will say this,
my name is Karla your little sis

Starlings volleyball is the name,
when we play we really get into the game
Bump, set, and spike takes a lot of skill,
the more you practice the better the kill.
Volleyball is a key to the heart,
which is why we play so smart.
We stay low to receive the serve,
we play it out and get the point we deserve.
We approach the net and jump so high,
like a Starling flying through the sky.
we may be small but we play like pros.
We try to keep our heads in the game,
and that fact we will never change.
Volleyball is not just a sport,
it is our passion to be on the court!

What Starlings means to me - 2008

Volleyball like the Earth
Players make the flock of birds
Trying to fly and reach the stars.
Obstacles on and off the court
Interfere with our game
But overcoming these barriers is like
flying over a bright moon in a pitch
black sky.
On the court we all play different roles
But we all have the similar goals
In the end all Starlings learn to fly
On the earth and in the sky.
